Canberra based artist, Sarah King, was born in the UK,
and raised in North Wales. She spent 21-years as an
Army Officer in the British Army, and later emigrated
and transferred to the Australian Army. She has served all
over the world and was medically retired in 2019 at the
rank of Major.
Sarah was diagnosed with severe PTSD, anxiety
disorder, major depression and chronic pain in 2018 and
during her treatment and recovery, she discovered a gift
for art and poetry. Decades of suppressed emotion found
an escape through prose and artwork.
Sarah has been drawn to figurative impressionism, creating pieces that generate
an emotional paradox; gentle and ferocious, vulnerable and strong, combined with a subtle
knowing that, despite the beauty depicted, her inspiration comes from a place that has
held great pain. She also draws heavily from nature in her art.
Sarah's poetry, always written spontaneously, is drawn from a depth of emotion that defies
boundaries; her words describe shame, joy, fear, love, passion, hurt, safety, terror and
contentment with a rawness that is haunting and oftentimes, confronting.
